About the Venue

The Strand Campus serves as the historic heart of King's College London, situated on the Strand within the prestigious City of Westminster. It lies next to the illustrious Somerset House, extending its presence to the scenic banks of the River Thames. At its core, the campus features the King's Building, a Grade I listed structure from 1831, crafted by the esteemed Sir Robert Smirke, alongside the college chapel which was reimagined in 1864 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. The campus's expanse has grown over the years, incorporating significant portions of Surrey Street, including the Norfolk and Chesham Buildings, following World War II and the addition of the Strand Building in 1972. Named in honour of Sir Ivison Macadam, a distinguished King's alumnus and the inaugural President of the National Union of Students, the Macadam Building, erected in 1975, formerly accommodated the Strand Campus Students' Union.

The campus is a beacon for the arts and sciences, hosting the Faculties of Arts & Humanities, Law, Social Science & Public Policy, and Natural & Mathematical Sciences. It is also the site of the King's College London Archives, a treasure trove of collections that include the papers of Field Marshal Alan Brooke, 1st Viscount Alanbrooke.

In recent years, the Strand Campus has undergone significant expansion. This includes incorporating the East Wing of Somerset House and the acquisition of the Virginia Woolf Building near LSE on Kingsway. A notable milestone was in 2015 when King's secured a 50-year lease for the Aldwych Quarter, which includes the iconic Bush House. The phased occupation of Bush House began in September 2016, starting with its north west wing, and is set to continue with the future inclusion of King House and Melbourne House from 2025 onwards.
