Debate Mate's educational initiative, centred around school debating societies, plays a pivotal role in advancing social mobility and bolstering essential skills for employment. Since its inception in 2007, the programme has been instrumental in regions with high social need. It focuses on imparting critical skills such as team collaboration, effective communication, core self-assurance, analytical judgement, creative and critical thinking, and adept problem-solving.

This programme stands at the forefront of nurturing future-ready skills, which are highly valued by leaders in various industries. Its curriculum is meticulously crafted to enhance critical and analytical thinking, necessitating students to dissect topics and construct well-rounded arguments for diverse viewpoints. This process not only refines their reasoning and decision-making abilities but also fosters empathy and problem-solving skills. A recent 2023 survey highlights the programme's impact: 81% of participants reported increased confidence in voicing their opinions in class, and 88% felt more inclined to contribute their ideas in group settings.

Over the past year, Debate Mate has engaged over 5,000 students weekly, extending its reach to 235 primary and secondary schools across six major UK cities. A significant focus is on primary schools with a sustained high percentage of pupils receiving free school meals (over 25.5% for the past six years) and secondary schools with 26.9%. Additionally, the Virtual Core Programme, initiated in 2022-23, has expanded the programme's reach to areas without a physical presence, including nine schools that participated in national debating competitions such as the Debate Mate Cup.

2023 has been a year of recognition for Debate Mate. The programme received the Southwark Stands Together Award for its contributions in London and was honoured with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Community Engagement Award for its Debate Box initiative. Beyond the UK, Debate Mate's summer programmes have empowered schools in countries like Mexico, Zambia, Kenya, Nepal, and Rwanda to establish their own debating clubs. The Debate Mate Virtual platform further amplifies this global impact, connecting over 2,500 students from more than 40 countries.

The growth of Debate Mate Schools is bolstered by the reinvestment of profits from Debate Mate Ltd, the parent company. The company is evolving into a technology-centric organisation, leveraging artificial intelligence to expand its training capabilities globally.

Debate Mate Ltd also champions the Boardroom to Classroom initiative, fostering valuable interactions between students and professionals. This includes collaborative ventures like the Bank of America Intern Challenge, where students and interns work together on community-focused projects, facilitating meaningful discussions about career paths, education, and aspirations.
