Description

We believe there may be an opportunity for the LGA to support the sector, by exploring the possibility of improving the quality and management of some key data and then making it available commercially as a national dataset. This model already exists for addressing and streets data, in the form of GeoPlace, a company owned by the LGA (jointly with Ordnance Survey). Such an endeavour would require a sustainable model, in which councils receive some income from their data (and the use of the data is strictly controlled), while the LGA also receives income for its role.
We are keen to understand what data held by (all) councils might form part of such a model; and what data, if any, councils are already offering commercially.

This research will provide valuable insights into whether this is a feasible business proposition.
