What percentage do angel investors take?

Featured Replies

This came up in a meeting we had this week while talking about fundraising and what founders should realistically expect to give away when raising from angel investors.

Obviously every deal is different, but what percentage of equity would you consider normal for an angel investment? And at what point would you say a founder is giving away too much?

I think it really depends on the stage and how much you're raising.

I'd be more interested in how much runway the investment gives you compared with the equity you're giving away. 10% could be reasonable in one deal and a terrible deal in another.

Would be interested to hear what other founders here have actually been offered. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello Neha! Good to see you jumping into the discussions ๐Ÿ‘‹

I agree, I guess it really comes down to what the investor brings beyond the money.

Curious to hear what others have been offered...

You should be careful about focusing too much on the percentage itself.

I would focus on working backwards from how much you need, what milestones that gets you to, and what the business could realistically be worth after that.
