Financial institutions are under pressure to make faster decisions without compromising accuracy. London-based fintech Cognitive Credit has secured a $40 million strategic growth investment to help credit analysts work more efficiently with complex financial data and expand its presence in the United States.

The investment was led by Summit Partners, with continued participation from existing investor ETFS Capital. Summit Partnersโ€™ Chris Bon will join Cognitive Creditโ€™s board of directors as part of the deal.

Founded in 2017 by Robert Slater, Cognitive Credit develops corporate credit data, analytics and AI-powered workflow tools for investment banks, asset managers and other financial institutions. Its platform helps analysts assess companies that issue corporate bonds and loans, using structured financial information drawn from hundreds of thousands of reports.

The company says its technology now supports analytical workflows at more than 80% of the worldโ€™s 25 largest asset managers by assets under management, as well as all ten leading investment banks ranked by debt-market transaction volume.

Where will the $40m go?

Cognitive Credit plans to use the investment to accelerate its commercial expansion in the US and develop its next generation of products.

One priority is DealConnect, a platform designed to give users access to detailed credit models for private companies that share financial information through secure data rooms. This could help investors analyse businesses whose financial disclosures are not readily available through public filings.

The company is also preparing to introduce agentic AI capabilities that can automate parts of fundamental credit research. Its existing platform combines verified financial data with analytics and AI tools, with outputs designed to be traceable back to their sources.

That traceability matters in credit analysis. Analysts need to understand how a conclusion was reached, particularly when their assessments influence lending decisions, investment portfolios and risk management.

Cognitive Credit reports that active users have grown by 240% over the past three years, while its coverage of global bond and loan issuers has more than doubled. Its platform now covers more than 3,500 issuers across the US, Europe and emerging markets.

Why this funding matters

Corporate credit is a vast market, but analysing the financial health of borrowers can involve reviewing fragmented disclosures, extracting figures from documents and rebuilding financial models manually.

AI could reduce some of this repetitive work, allowing analysts to spend more time assessing risk and identifying opportunities. However, financial institutions cannot rely on speed alone. Inaccurate figures or unsupported conclusions can have serious consequences.

Cognitive Credit is betting that combining specialist financial data with AI will be more valuable than applying general-purpose AI tools to financial research without the same level of verification.

For founders, the round highlights an important opportunity in business software. Rather than trying to replace an entire profession, a company can build technology around a specific, expensive workflow and demonstrate value through better accuracy, productivity and decision-making.

The next challenge for Cognitive Credit is to turn its established customer base into sustained international growth while ensuring its AI tools meet the reliability standards demanded by financial institutions.
