Does Having Founder Experience on Your CV Actually Help You Get Hired?

Featured Replies

I've been wondering how employers view people who've previously started their own businesses.

On one hand, you've probably handled things that most employees never get exposed to. Sales, operations, hiring, budgets, customer problems, and plenty of decisions where there's nobody else to ask.

On the other hand, I can imagine a hiring manager wondering whether you'll struggle to work under someone else, or leave as soon as another business idea comes along.

I'm curious because I'm considering returning to employment after spending time building a company.

For anyone who's made that move, did your founder experience help you stand out, or did you find yourself having to explain it away during interviews?
