PR & Communications

Featured Replies

Hi founders!

At what stage of your start-up journey do you start thinking about investing in PR & Comms?

I’m building a platform to help start-ups navigate Communications more strategically, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. If you’re open to filling a 2-min survey or a having a quick chat with me, I’d really appreciate it. The survey link is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/7T28FF7

I’m happy to share insights or brainstorm any Comms challenges you’re facing too, drop me a line 😊

As there's no downside to it really, I'd say the sooner the better. For anyone who puts it off, it may be because they find it daunting, but I believe the benefits far outweigh any learning curve they may encounter.

My budget is so tight at the moment that I'm pouring most of it into product development.  I'd probably wait until I had a decent prototype to start hyping it up through PR.

I'm with Pandora on this one; it's important to get your name out there as soon as possible. You want to be the trending topic before the competition can take that spot. It's all about creating buzz and the anticipation of your launch.

Great question, Maria — and it’s something that comes up a lot in our forum too. Personally, I think PR & Comms should be treated like a growth lever, not just a "nice to have." That said, timing is everything.

For us, we waited until we had a bit of traction (about 500 founders onboarded) before really pushing out press releases or media engagement. What worked well was using our milestones — such as partnerships or major events — as reasons to reach out to press and build credibility.

If you're just starting out, I’d say focus on community building and storytelling. Share your journey consistently through content, blogs, and interviews — that way, when you do bring in PR support, there’s already a foundation to build on.

Just filled in your survey too. Happy to chat if you ever want a perspective from someone juggling both platform and events PR!
