Job Description

Are you passionate about creating transformative carbon removal solutions that mineralise CO2 directly from the atmosphere? Deep Science Ventures (DSV) invites expressions of interest for an exciting role as a Founder in Residence, Climate, with hiring commencing in early to mid-2025.

The Mission

We are seeking entrepreneurial talent with expertise in commercial and technical domains to co-found a global-scale, high-impact company dedicated to advancing carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies. Youโ€™ll collaborate with the DSV team and a fellow Founder in Residence to design and launch an innovative venture specialising in CO2 mineralisation and above-ground storage.

Once established with pre-seed funding, you and your co-founder(s) will retain the majority stake in the new enterprise, while DSV continues to provide expert guidance and post-launch support.

This is a full-time opportunity, initially remote, with a potential relocation required when the venture is incorporated (targeted for mid to late 2025).

Why This Matters

The global need for engineered solutions to remove and store CO2 is more critical than ever. Current removal efforts stand at just 1โ€“2 million tonnes per year, far from the billions required by 2050.

While technologies such as Direct Air Capture (DAC) have shown promise, their costs remain prohibitively high, averaging $690 per tonne. Meanwhile, methods like Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) offer lower costs (around $370 per tonne) but suffer from slow reaction times and high monitoring expenses.

DSV aims to pioneer a new class of CDR technologies that merge air capture with mineralisation, cutting costs by bypassing energy-intensive processes like CO2 regeneration and compression. This integrated approach promises affordable, durable, and verifiable carbon storage solutions.

Your Role

As a Founder in Residence, you will:

  • Collaborate with DSV and your co-founder(s) to conceptualise, launch, and lead a CDR company.
  • Develop strategies, build partnerships, and shape the operational framework of the venture.
  • Take ownership of a majority equity stake, alongside pre-seed funding to jumpstart the companyโ€™s growth.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

Ideal candidates will exhibit:

  • Leadership experience in scaling startups or enterprises, including team building, fundraising, and strategy development.
  • Expertise in the carbon market, heavy-emitting sectors (e.g., steel, cement), or construction materials.
  • Strong networks within carbon-intensive industries and regulatory bodies.
  • Proven ability to translate emerging technologies from concept to commercialisation.
  • A collaborative, innovative mindset and a drive to tackle complex challenges.

What Youโ€™ll Gain

By partnering with DSV, you will benefit from:

  • Seed Funding: Up to ยฃ250,000 to establish the venture and generate proof-of-concept data.
  • Income Security: A consultancy fee of ยฃ4,166 per month until pre-seed funding is secured.
  • Equity Ownership: A majority stake shared with your co-founders.
  • Expert Guidance: Access to DSVโ€™s proprietary tools, advisor network, and ongoing support in areas such as fundraising, recruitment, and partnership building.
  • Collaborative Environment: Join a network of founders and innovators building high-impact ventures across multiple sectors.
