Run by the Goldman Sachs Foundation to provide high quality, structured and practically focussed support to small business leaders. The programme is fully funded and is delivered over 100 hours through a blend of online and in-person residential sessions. Participants benefit from a full package of support with a strong focus on structured peer learning and the creation of communities of entrepreneurs.

The University actively supports entrepreneurs and academic staff in the creation of new ventures to lead the exploitation of research generated opportunities. This support ranges from licensing IP to start-ups to directly supporting the planning/ formation of a spin-out venture. Since 2006, the University has had a partnership with leading early-stage investor - IP Group plc who provide expertise in company creation and access to investment.

A 3-month programme dedicated to helping 50 aspiring entrepreneurs off the ground. The focus is on a learning-by-doing community experience that teaches how to build a start-up and is recommended for those looking to change careers by launching a business. Paid by a flat-fee for the programme.

Business Launchpad offers a full business start-up programme for young entrepreneurs 17-30 years old.

Our services are open to new starts-ups right through to well-established companies. We offer a whole range of joined-up business services, from digital support to help accessing finance, and resource efficiency to tailored support for textile and manufacturing businesses.

Our B Start-Up programme offers alumni and students the opportunity to start and run a business, after graduation or during university.

Birkbeck supports students interested in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, primarily through three activities: A series of Boot Camps, which are popular with students who want to learn from experts, try out their ideas and enjoy working in teams and building new networks. The Birkbeck Enterprise Community, Competitions and Awards pathway (BECCA), for students who wish to develop enterprise knowledge and skills, enter competitions and have the opportunity to receive awards. BaYBI is a hub of social enterprises within the London Borough of Barnet that are working together to positively impact the lives of young people, particularly those classified as “not in education, employment, or training (Neets).

Babraham’s Bioincubator was established in 1998 and provides around 115,000 square feet of serviced facilities and expertise to support new bioventures and catalyses the commercial exploitation of biomedical research. BBT facilitates access to technical facilities, the Technology Development Laboratory, administrative, IT and corporate services as well as access to the world-class research of the Babraham Institute. Many successful partnerships are flourishing between academic research groups and resident companies on the campus. The services are designed to help early-stage companies by providing a way to reduce cash-burn during their formative years and a supportive environment in which nascent scientific enterprises can flourish. The exceptional facilities and flexible, competitive terms have ensured the Bioincubator’s success.

"The AWRC Wellbeing Accelerator is an R&D-focused programme that supports pre-revenue and early-stage companies* developing products or services with health and wellbeing applications that align with the AWRCs impact themes. The programme is accessed via a competitive application process and provides the accepted cohort with a range of valuable support to help them get their innovation closer to market and/or enter new markets. The programme does not take equity and is fully funded via University contributions and private sector sponsorship. Based in Sheffield Hallam’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, participants have access to world-class R&D capabilities to carry out design and rapid prototyping, through to precision engineering of prototype components. The centre also houses laboratories for proof-of-concept testing and a clinical research floor to test innovations with end-users for usability assessments or initial pilot studies to support development of the evidence base. The AWRC also leverages its ecosystem of supportive individuals and organisations to help startup founders to grow their networks; forge new collaborations and help to secure public and private investment. Following the defined accelerator programme, the programme team will work with the cohort to develop collaborative grant funding applications - decided on a case by case basis following our assessment of the fit to the specific call criteria.
