Business Idea, where to start?

Featured Replies

Need to know where to start, got in touch with a lawyer, I have an NDA.

I have this bespoke project, creating a new and improved veterinary software management system, saturated market, I know. I have worked within the veterinary space for over 10 years now, I believe I can create a software that will stand out and pave the way for animal health.

Hi Kirsty

I hope youโ€™re keeping well โ€” itโ€™s Harry here (not a chatbot, I promise ๐Ÿ˜„).

I just wanted to check in and see where youโ€™re at with starting your business.

Are you still in the validation and ideation stage (done proper competitor anlayse, spoken to end users), or have you moved forward to building an MVP or getting paying customers?

Would be great to hear where things stand.

Some examples of vertinary startups that I have seen lately:

Hey Harry!!

Thank you for reaching out!

Really still in its ideation stage, still doing ongoing research in the competitors in the UK given that it is such a saturated market. I just know that my ideas and thought process is so different as to what is out there. In the middle of reaching out to software developers in Leeds, as the tech side is not my forte and just needing a place to start really.

You're doing exactly the right thing by starting with a lawyer and an NDA. That shows you understand this is serious business, not just a coding project.

With 10 years in the veterinary space, you've got something none of the big players have - actual frontline experience. You know what makes vets curse at their software at 2am during an emergency. You know the workflow pain points that look fine in a corporate spec sheet but fall apart in real practice. That insider knowledge is your secret weapon.

The market is saturated with general solutions, sure. IDEXX, Covetrus, all those names own the space . But saturation usually means there's demand, and existing products are leaving people frustrated. Your edge isn't building another generic PMS - it's building something informed by those 10 years of seeing what actually works.

Start by documenting everything. Every frustration you've had, every workaround you've seen colleagues use, every "I wish this software just did X" moment. That's your feature list right there. Don't try to boil the ocean - pick the pain points that matter most and solve them beautifully.

You've got the industry knowledge. You've got legal protection. Now trust that combination and start building.
