  1. Horizon Europe 2025: European Innovation Ecosystems

The European Innovation Ecosystems work programme aims to create and expand more connected, inclusive, and efficient innovation ecosystems that support the scaling of companies and spur innovation.
Deep tech innovations, emerging from a growing cohort of innovative startups in the EU, have the potential to deliver transformative solutions in the face of global challenges, but much of the knowledge produced by researchers working in Europe remains unexploited. A key reason behind this failure is the fact that researchers in Europe are less well integrated into networks of universities, start-ups, large companies and venture capitalists, which account for a large share of successful commercialisations in high-tech sectors. Strengthening the networks, providing them with the infrastructure and resources they need, is a crucial step to putting research and innovation at the heart of the EU economy.
The work programme contains actions under two destinations: CONNECT and INNOVSMES.
The actions under the CONNECT destination focus on building interconnected and inclusive innovation ecosystems across the EU. Drawing on the existing strengths of national, regional and local ecosystems and encouraging the involvement of all actors and territories, this destination aims to reinforce network connectivity for sustainable business growth and to define and achieve ambitious collective goals for the benefit of society, including green, digital, and social transitions. It supports the flagship actions on accelerating and strengthening innovation in European Innovation Ecosystems across the EU and addressing the innovation divide, funding for deep tech scale-ups and enabling deep tech innovation through experimentation spaces and public procurement under the New European Innovation Agenda. The action under the INNOVSMES destination will support the European Partnership on Innovative Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which will help innovative SMEs to increase their research and innovation (R&I) capacity and productivity and successfully embed in global value chains and access new markets. Details of the calls within each destination are given below. Closing date is 19 June 2025 for the โ‚ฌ108m INNOVSMES call โ€œEuropean Partnership on Innovative SMEsโ€: the CONNECT calls have closing dates of 15 October 2025 or 20 January 2026.
An online info day was held on 3 June, 10am-12:30pm CEST (9am-11:30am UK time) which includes the two CONNECT calls closing on 15 Oct 2025: watch the recording on YouTube and download the slides. Further information can be found at the European Innovation Ecosystems website.
UK organisations and businesses can apply for Horizon Europe funding, working as part of a three-country consortium with at least one member from within the EU (see โ€œWho can apply?โ€ below). If you are interested in one of the calls and would like to find a collaboration partner, contact Innovate UK Business Connectโ€™s European Programmes team.

  17. natIgnite 2025

NAT invites you to natIgnite 2025, a 40-hour interdisciplinary hackathon.
Hosted semi-annually by NAT in partnership with community partners, each natIgnite is centered on a distinct theme. This year's theme for natIgnite 2025 is AgeTech.
At the heart of Ignite is a unique model: every team of Hackers (supposedly 4-6) work on a real-world problem sourced directly from a Problem Provider. We also invite industry partners to join as Advisors. This format grounds every project in real-world relevance, increases the likelihood of long-term impact, and offers teams a direct line to expert guidance.
During the event, teams work hands-on with advanced hardware such as biosensors, motion detectors, and remote sensing devices, layered with computing approaches like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data analytics, to develop functional prototypes with real-world potential.
Over $5,000 in seed funding and in-kind resources are available for winning teams, creating pathways to continue developing their projects even after the event.
    Requirements
    To Participate in natIgnite 2025:
    Recruitment & Registration
Participants apply individually through natPortal, complete the registration form, pay the registration fees on Luma, and gain access to event details and resources.
Weekend 1: Workshops + Pitch Day
The first weekend kicks off with hands-on workshops and foundational sessions on neurotech tools, innovation strategy, and project management. On Day 2, Problem Providers pitch real-world challenges to the cohort. Teams are formed and matched with Problem Providers by our team to begin ideation and early planning.

    Weekly Development Reports
Between weekends, teams meet with their Problem Providers to align on goals and complete a series of Weekly Development Reports. These touchpoints ensure strong direction, technical clarity, and team cohesion heading into the build phase.

    Weekend 2: 40-Hour Hackathon + Judging
The second weekend is the core build sprint. A 40-hour hackathon where teams prototype their solutions with real-time access to mentorship, hardware, and technical support. It concludes with a judging session where teams present to a multidisciplinary panel of experts. Winners are announced the same day.

    Post-Hackathon Support
Three winning teams from each Ignite event receive $5,000 in seed funding and an equal amount of in-kind resources. All teams are invited to join NATโ€™s ongoing mentorship network and receive guidance on commercialization, research, and community deployment.

  24. Circular Critical Materials Supply Chains (CLIMATES) Investment Readiness Programme 2025

A wide range of critical materials are required for the technologies and innovation needed to decarbonise and achieve the UKโ€™s Net Zero ambitions. In 2024, the UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre released its Criticality Assessment which examined the current global supply status of 82 materials and the UKโ€™s economic vulnerability to any potential supply disruption. The study designated 34 critical minerals, providing the basis for UK policy and investment around critical minerals.
Innovate UKโ€™s CLIMATES programme is supporting innovative companies working in the supply chains for any of these 34 minerals (includes extraction, processing, manufacturing, recycling and alternatives) and is offering this Investment Readiness Programme to UK companies seeking to raise investment in these areas.
    What to expect
Selected companies will benefit from a 12-week hybrid programme, combining expert-led online andย in-person workshops. At the end of the Programme, youโ€™ll have developed an investor pitch, finished your proposition and youโ€™ll have a defendable understanding of your IP, finances and future plans.
    Programme Overview
The programme will support you to hone your pitch to investors, get a better understanding of the funding landscape, prepare your investment materials and be more confident in delivering a compelling commercial story. The programme will provide regular touch points with investors to help you navigate the fundraising process, make new connections and kick start your investment journey. The Programme will culminate in a live Showcase event where selected cohort members will pitch to an audience of investors active in the battery and critical materials sectors.
At the end of the Programme, youโ€™ll have:
Developed a suite of investor pitch materials (elevator deck/investor deck/demo deck etc.). Greater confidence in investor meetings, negotiations and due diligence. Clear articulation of your value proposition, market, IP, financials, and growth plans. Gained pitch feedback from investors & industry experts. Built collaborative relationships with your cohort, industry experts & Innovate UK representatives along the way. A live investor pitch experience at our final Showcase (if selected). If you would like to apply to take part, please complete our application form at the link below. You can review a copy of theย T&Cs here. Successful applicants will be required to sign and adhere to these.

This programme is designed specifically forย established companies that are actively developing a defined product or solution. If youโ€™ve recently incorporated and are still shaping your idea, this may not be the right time to apply. The content is tailored for SMEs who are preparing to engage with investors in the next 6โ€“12 months and need support refining their pitch, investment materials, and fundraising strategy.
We focus on developing and championing diversity of talent which we know will create more resilient supply chains for the UK. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented groups and female applicants.

  25. Battery Investment Readiness Programme 2025

    What to expect
Selected companies will benefit from a 12-week hybrid programme, combining expert-led online and in-person workshops. These sessions are designed not just to deliver content, but to foster deep peer-to-peer learning, build trusted relationships, and provide direct access to experts. Participation for in-person workshops is strongly encouraged to maximise the value of the programme, especially in terms of building your network and benefiting from real-time, collaborative feedback.
    Programme Overview
The programme will support you to hone your pitch to investors, get a better understanding of the funding landscape, prepare your investment materials and be more confident in delivering a compelling commercial story. The programme will provide regular touch points with investors and mentors to help you navigate the fundraising process, make new connections and further your investment journey. The Programme will culminate in a live Showcase event where selected cohort members will pitch to an audience of investors active in the battery, transport and critical materials sectors.
At the end of the Programme, youโ€™ll have
Developed a suite of investor pitch materials (elevator deck/investor deck/demo deck etc.). If you would like to apply to take part, please review the schedule and complete the application form. You can review a copy of the T&Cs here. Successful applicants will be required to sign and adhere to these.

This programme is designed specifically for established companies that are actively developing a defined product or solution. If youโ€™ve recently incorporated and are still shaping your idea, this may not be the right time to apply. The content is tailored for SMEs who are preparing to engage with investors in the next 6โ€“12 months and need support refining their pitch, investment materials, and fundraising strategy.
We focus on developing and championing diversity of talent which we know will create a stronger battery ecosystem for the UK. We strongly encourage applications from under-represented individuals and female applicants.
